Faces of Public Health: Andrea Bedrosian

Public health is powered by people. By the individuals who show up every day to serve their communities, often without recognition, but always with purpose.

Throughout the month of April, we are proud to highlight the “Faces of Public Health.” A collection of stories that celebrate the professionals, partners, and leaders who make this work possible across Missouri. From local health department staff to community partners and system leaders, these individuals represent the heart of public health: committed, collaborative, and deeply connected to the communities they serve.

Each story is a simple but meaningful thank you. Written by members of our team, these reflections shine a light on the impact, leadership, and humanity behind the work. Whether it’s strengthening systems, supporting neighbors, building partnerships, or stepping up in moments that matter most, these individuals truly shine.

And this month, we’re proud to celebrate them.

“Andrea began her role as Administrator for the Callaway County Health Department in January 2022. From day one, she has brought vision, energy, and commitment to her role. Her leadership has made a lasting and measurable impact on both the Health Department and Callaway County as a whole.

A resolute public health advocate, Andrea has intentionally cultivated a culture of continuous improvement, growth, and sustainability. She has built a strong, collaborative relationship with the Callaway County Commissioners, who both encourage and support her endeavors.

This alignment extends far beyond governance and external partners. It is clear and distinct within the department itself. Stepping into the Health Department, you immediately feel the positive impact of Andrea’s leadership. Staff are united, engaged, and fully invested in the direction of the department. The mission-driven environment is both welcoming and infectious, creating a sense of shared purpose and belonging.

Under Andrea’s leadership, the Health Department continues to grow and evolve through the introduction of new services, including employee drug testing for local businesses and STI testing services in the near future. She is actively leading the department toward PHAB Accreditation, a national recognition of excellence in public health practice. In addition, Andrea has overseen a complete renovation of the department, expanding capacity and enhancing service delivery to better meet community and staff needs. She consistently balances immediate priorities with long-term strategic planning, ensuring sustainable progress. Central to her leadership is her commitment to staff’s well-being and success, whether through creating a dedicated mental wellness space or through providing the support and resources that staff need to excel in their roles.

I’ve had the pleasure of working with Andrea for nearly two years now. Her dedication to public health is unparalleled. Her impact is evident in the strong turnout of community partners at meetings, the genuine appreciation expressed by Health Department staff when speaking about her leadership, and in the way she consistently shows up with purpose and authenticity each day. I’m grateful to have leaders like Andrea in public health, guiding our State and communities towards a healthier future.

Thank you, Andrea.” – Jacob Holstrom, MOPHI Special Projects Coordinator.
