At the Missouri Public Health Institute, we believe strong communities are built through strong partnerships, and today’s spotlight is a powerful example of what that looks like in action.

 

The Webster County Health Unit (WCHU) has officially become a local “Front Door” site for Community Partnership of the Ozarks’ One Door program, bringing coordinated homeless services directly into the community for the first time.

 

Opening the Door to Support

 

Through this partnership, individuals experiencing homelessness in Webster County can now complete the One Door intake process locally, either by phone or in person at the health unit.

 

That single step connects them to a coordinated entry system that provides access to housing resources and supportive services throughout the Springfield region.

 

The program is designed to serve anyone experiencing homelessness, whether they are unsheltered, living in a vehicle, or temporarily staying with others without stable housing, and the intake takes about 20 minutes and is completely free.

 

Meeting People Where They Are

 

Local leadership is key to the program’s success. Taylor Williams, RN, Community Navigator at WCHU, is leading implementation on the ground and helping residents connect not only to housing resources but also to broader health and social supports.

 

According to Williams, the goal is simple but powerful: making it easier for people to access help without needing to travel long distances or navigate complex systems alone.

 

This approach reflects what we know to be true across public health systems: when access barriers are reduced, communities are better positioned to move toward stability and well-being.
